Hemdean House School Harvest Festival 2009

Hemdean House celebrated Harvest Festival with a special service during morning assembly on 5th October 2009. This year we supported the Churches In Reading Drop-In Centre (CIRDIC) with gifts of coffee, sugar, shampoo, shower gel etc. kindly donated by staff and pupils. The service, led by Mrs. Harris was interspersed with items from pupils: Head girl, Lisa Benn, read “To Autumn” by John Keats; Alice Hinde, Joanna Gray, Rebecca Morton and Clare Yang read a dramatised version of Matthew chapter 25 verses 31-46; the Infants sang ‘Leaves are Falling’ and Year 6 pupils – Charlotte Carpenter-Brown, Jack Griffin, Kyra Blackman and Amelia Coll led the school in Harvest Intercessions. The Rev. Stephen Cousins gave a very thought provoking talk on water; explaining just what a precious commodity it is and how each one of us has a responsibility to use it wisely. His visual aids helped to illustrate his message which hopefully everyone took on board. He ended the service with the Blessing.
New School Hall

Things are progressing well with the new school hall. Much of the outside construction has been completed and the builders are moving inside to complete the internal fittings and fixtures. We are still hoping it will be finished early in the new year when there will be special celebrations to celebrate the completion. Watch this space!
