The nursery is situated in the original lodge at the entrance to the grounds of the main school; it has its own enclosed garden and provides a secure, stimulating and caring environment for children between the ages of two and a half and four by well-qualified and experienced staff.

Children may attend full-time or for particular morning or afternoon sessions during the week.

The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the basis of the learning experiences of the children in the nursery.

Sessions are structured, with times set for individual activities, group projects and child-initiated play, both inside and outdoors. We expect the children to develop early learning skills: pre-reading involving visual and aural discrimination, hand and eye co-ordination and simple comprehension of past and present. Special learning apparatus and computer programmes are available to help develop early mathematical skills such as counting, sorting and recognition of sizes and shapes. Television, video and computers are used where appropriate to support learning activities. The children are given many opportunities to enjoy painting and drawing, activities with sand and water, and cooking.
Social skills such as learning to co-operate and play in a new environment are also encouraged. We work to develop each child’s confidence and an understanding of sharing and fair play. The nursery provides a wonderful stepping stone up into Reception at the age of four years when the children move with confidence into an already familiar environment.
