Juniors - Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6)
Children are taught an enhanced core curriculum by experienced and well-qualified junior specialist teachers as well as by subject specialists in Art and Design, French, Drama, Music, I.C.T. and P.E. (and in Science and Geography in Years 5 and 6). The typical number of children in a class is between 12 and 16.
Educational trips out of school and visiting speakers or companies in school are used to enrich the teaching and learning experience for the children.
The children’s confidence continues to grow and they begin to contribute to the setting of their own targets.
Short homework tasks are set each day, in addition to reading, spellings and tables learning, but homework should only be expected to take between thirty minutes and one hour, even in Year 6.
Boys leave at the end of Year 6, they are always awarded places at their first choice independent schools and the most able boys are regularly successful at gaining places at Reading School.
The School Day
The School day starts at 8.45 am and ends at 3.45 pm. The Year 3 day ends at 3.30.
Lunch time starts at 12.10 pm and finishes at 1.15 pm. Packed lunches are eaten in the form room under supervision.
The full range of National Curriculum subjects is taught. With specialist teaching in Science, Geography, French, ICT, Art, Drama, Music and P.E.
