Year groups of no more than 12 girls are taught the full range of National Curriculum subjects, by specialist, well-qualified teachers. Work is set at the appropriate level for girls of different abilities within a class, with extra one-to-one support available, or more challenging tasks set, where necessary.
Many educational visits are planned by the subject teachers in order to enhance the learning experience for their students.
Homework is set for each subject amounting in total to one and a half to two hours each evening.
At the end of the Spring term in Year 9 the girls select their GCSE optional subjects.
Senior girls are encouraged to join a range of extra-curricular activities offered at lunch time or after school.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
All students take a core curriculum of English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science, Additional Science and I.C.T. (Short Course) GCSE subjects; optional GCSEs in Three Separate Sciences, History, Geography, French, German, R.S., Art, Drama, Music, Home Economics (Food and Nutrition), P.E. and I.C.T. (Full Course) are usually offered.
Each year our most able GCSE candidates achieve all A and A* grades, but we also celebrate the C and D grades of our less academic senior students. All the girls proceed to sixth forms or FE colleges successfully, most to do either A Levels, the International Baccalaureat or National Diplomas.
The School Day
The School day starts at 8.45 am and ends at 3.45 pm.
Lunch time starts at 12.10 pm and finishes at 1.05 pm. Packed lunches are eaten in the form room or outside during the summer months.
The full range of National Curriculum subjects is taught. All subjects are taught by specialist qualified teachers.
Homework is set daily. Parents are requested to sign a copy of their daughter’s homework timetable at the beginning of each year.
Homework Club
There is a Homework Club that can by used by senior students. This gives girls the opportunity to complete their homework in a supervised working environment in the main building between the hours of 4.00 and 6.00 pm.
