Form teachers have special responsibility to care for the emotional and social welfare of each pupil within his or her group, as well as to monitor his or her academic progress. Form teachers consult regularly with subject teachers, the head teacher and assistant heads so that any problems can be dealt with as swiftly as possible. Good relationships between staff and pupils help to ensure a pupil’s well-being.
We have a policy for sex and relationship education within a moral framework. Sex education and matters relating to drugs, alcohol and smoking are dealt with in science, PSHE and RE lessons. Our policy documents, dealing with important issues such as equal opportunities and bullying, are available in school for parents who wish to read them.
Our religious ethos is based on Christianity and each year we attend our local parish church, St. Peter’s, for our Christmas carol service, to which parents are invited. Other faiths are studied in lessons and a variety of religious festivals are celebrated. We believe that religious understanding and an appreciation of other creeds are an important part of every child’s development. Pupils of all beliefs or none belong to our school, but each pupil is expected to join in morning assemblies and religious education.
