Welcome to the Senior Department (Key Stages 3 & 4)

Our Senior Department is housed in the main House, and is for girls in Years 7-11.  A typical class size is 12. Girls are taught by subject specialists from whose enthusiasm and expertise they benefit enormously.  Great emphasis is placed on pastoral care; we seek to identify, nurture and celebrate each pupil's gifts and talents within a caring community. The school motto is "Laborate et Gaudete" - "Work and Rejoice", which we interpret as "work hard and have fun".  Our pupils know that there are times when they have to be quiet, concentrate and work hard and times when they can relax and enjoy themselves.

Communication between the school and parents is regarded as a priority and takes place both informally, as required, and formally at two parents' evenings and through two written reports each year.

Results at each Key Stage are well above the national average and our value-added scores are excellent.

The school day starts at 8.45am and finishes at 3.45pm.

There are eight 40 minute lessons each day with a 50 minute lunch break. Hot lunches are available on Wednesdays and Fridays in the school hall. Pupils bring in a packed lunch when hot lunches are not served.

Pupils achieve high standards in relation to their abilities; the proportion of A* and A grades has been more than twice that of all maintained schools.
