Black History Month – Black Women of Importance

15th October 20

This year the focus was on inspirational Black Women throughout history. These were a few we discussed:

  • Mary Seacole – for her contribution to nursing during the Crimean War
  • Rosa Parks – for her bravery and fight for civil rights
  • Diane Abbott MP – for being the first voted and longest-serving black MP in parliament
  • Heather Small – for her contribution to Anti-bullying and Anti-racism charities
  • Malory Blackman, OBE – for her contribution to Children’s Literature and being Children’s Laureate
  • Dame Kelly Holmes – for her contributions to sport and her charity helping young people facing disadvantages across the UK
  • Naomie Harris, OBE for her contribution to Drama

As a multinational school, we are very proud of our mix of culture and heritage. Our pupils learn the importance of acceptance and inclusion and we promote the recognition and celebration of our differences.
